Despite the short story, though, TFU and TFUII were both major hits in the video game sphere and also with gamers in general. While the gameplay was a blast, the downside was short storyline. TFU brought fantastic gameplay to a largely short story and that was the knock of TFU games. The idea behind the game was to build on KOTOR and KOTORII and was largely regarded as spiritual successor to those games. TFU followed Darth Vader’s apprentice who was way too powerful for his training. TFU is still regarded as an overall good game, but the quality of the game was less than stellar. TFU attempted to build on what KOTOR was, but failed, not miserably though. Star Wars stayed dormant for a little bit and eventually in 2008, The Force Unleashed was released. Call of Duty released Modern Warfare and Halo and Halo 2 were released to critical acclaim and Halo 3 was in development. While games shifted from open world gameplay driven games, players wanted deeper storylines mixed with action. The Star Wars franchise took a hiatus on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Eventually, in 2004, Obsidian released the follow up KOTOR II: The Sith Lords. Games like The Elder Scrolls series and Dragon Age and even recent games like Elden Ring and the Horizon games all take the lessons learned from KOTOR and have perfected them. Arguably, this game set the president for open world RPG games and set the market for future generations of gaming. Eventually, this game released on iOS, the subsequent Xbox platforms including the Xbox One and Xbox 360 via backwards compatibility. KOTOR released on the Xbox in 2003 and has become one of the best games of all time. KOTOR takes everything great about Star Wars and combines it with advancements in gameplay, storylines that are gripping, and an open world that’s truly sandbox. There are very few games that have an impact on the gaming community other than Knights of the Old Republic. Battlefront competed against the first and third person shooters and provided players with a sandbox star wars experience that really hasn’t been replicated since. The FPS genre was changing with the likes of Battlefield 1942 releasing and Medal of Honor providing excellent gameplay and unique level design. Battlefront released in 2004 with the second game releasing in 2005 and a long awaited sequel canceled in 2008 on the Xbox 360 and PS3. This allowed for players to control the Galactic Republic versus the Confederate Independent Systems (CIS) or the Civil War era with the Rebels and the Galactic Empire in battles that were huge in scale and was the first time we truly saw a sandbox Star Wars shooter. Battlefront had giant epic battles with amazing gameplay. Of all the games on this list, Battlefront and Battlefront II has been one of the most revered in the shooter genre. Bounty Hunter had replay value with credits unlocking in-game art giving players a chance to collect everything. However the most impressive addition was the voice actor who reprised his role as Jango Fett in the Star Wars movies, Temuera Morrison, was the voice of the in game character. The game also gives you access to scanners and switches to a first person giving the player ultimate control over how the game is played. Bounty Hunter gives the player a great adventure and forces them to use all the tools available to them, including flamethrowers, rockets, and blaster pistols. SW:BH is in the third person perspective and that’s one of the best parts about it. This game takes on the classical Bounty Hunter Jango Fett on his adventures. Star Wars: Bounty Hunterīounty Hunter is regarded as one of the best third-person shooters in modern history. Republic Commando is known as one of the best Star Wars games and regarded still to this day as one of the most revolutionary shooters. This game takes the player alongside Delta Squad as they fight in big battles from the Star Wars movies such as Geonosis and on Kamino. Although it built on what Doom and Quake did, this game is still regarded as one of the most revolutionary games in the Star Wars universe. This game is largely known as a “Doom Clone” since Doom set the president for FPS games in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. This game released on the PC platform and the Xbox in 2005. Republic Commando was one of the first big hits of the Star Wars First Person Shooter genre. With the popularity that Doom and Quake had from ID software in the early 2000’s, games like Republic Commando and Bounty Hunter that really caused the Star Wars IP to take off. KOTOR and the subsequent games are regarded as some of the best games as they incorporate RPG, action, and Sci-Fi all into one experience. Star Wars has always been a great addition to the video game arena.
